A Week of Zero Waste DIY Challenge: Beauty Edition. Hump dayyyy, welcome back. How did the past two days go for you? You are doing great! Zero waste can be fun but also difficult. This one is especially easy and most people have the components on hand. It’s also useful even for those who don’t get dandruff!
DIY Anti-Dandruff, Moisturizing Hair Mask.
This is one that I like to call ‘what-you-have’ recipe. It has lots of flexibility with ingredients so you don’t have to go to the store or buy new things.
What you need
1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Salt
Dropper bottle (cleaned out stevia dropper bottled or empty facial oil bottle)- optional
Tea Tree Essential Oil- optional
Other oil of choice, depending on your hair properties or what you have (Ex: grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil etc.)
Baking Soda or Sugar for the ‘scrub’ part
Put all oils into dropper bottle. Add 20 drops Tea Tree oil if using. Massage olive oil to hair follicle roots as close to the scalp as possible. You can put some oil on end of hair if they feel really dry. I use my dropper to part my hair in a few different places to make it easier to distribute. Let sit for 10-20 mins (read a book, get inspired via Pinterest, do some lunges, organize junk drawer, meditate etc). You will look like a grease monkey, it’s fine. Sprinkle salt as close to scalp as well and use your fingers to scrub your scalp for 1-3 minutes depending on how much dandruff you have. Wash your hair twice and rinse thoroughly. Do this 2-3 times a week during dandruff season or once every 2 weeks for maintenance.
TIP: I use Himalayan pink salt since it has bigger chunks. I also use organic extra virgin olive oil because we always have it, its cheaper than most oils and I find it doesn’t stick around as much as coconut oil does.
